Julie Estrada
Lead Teacher
Julie has served as a substitute Spanish teacher, childcare worker and room parent for several schools and organizations over the years. She received her Associate's Degree from Colegio Ciencias Comerciales, a college in Guatemala. Her true passion is working with children! This is her second year with San Marcos and third year working formally as a preschool teacher!
Anabel Berriozabal
Teacher
Anabel was born and raised in Mexico where she started to care for children of all ages and has continued for over 20 years. With four children of her own, including one with special needs, she has continued her education in child development. Anabel began working with La Escuelita in 2017 and, after a short break, is excited to return to share her language and culture with all of the amazing kids!
Saray Gamez
School Coordinator
Saray is from Costa Rica and came to the USA when she was sixteen years old. She's a mother of two precious children. Saray loves to work serving the community and is passionate about working with children, as she has done for several years now.
Carol Monaco
Weekly Community Reader
Ms. Carol has been a weekly volunteer at San Marcos for several years, even during virtual school, where she would lead Zoom meetings with the children. Whether it has been tutoring online or reading to the children in person, Ms. Carol has been dedicated not only to our students but students from other schools as well. She is a member of North Mecklenburg Woman's Club.
Perry Chapman
Weekly Volunteer & Tutor
Mr. Perry has been with Escuelita since 2020 as a weekly volunteer. Whether it's developing his own slideshows in order to tutor children, helping the students paint, installing playground equipment or teaching the kids how to play tennis - Mr. Perry truly does it all! Perry spent many years in Mexico and is fluent in Spanish.
Jama Fleming
Advancement
Jama has been helping the families of San Marcos since 2017. She has served as Director since 2020, when she sourced funding for and created a sucessful virtual preschool that allowed San Marcos to continue its mission when students lacked transportation. Jama comes to the San Marcos Board with twenty years of professional experience in management, tech and legal. She holds her MBA from King University. Jama lives with her husband, a product manager for a Big Five tech company, their two sons and new baby girl! When she is not changing diapers or directing, she is fundraising and managing the web presence for San Marcos.
